About the course
Do you have babies or children around you, or do you work as a childminder or in childcare? Then it is reassuring to know exactly what to do in case of an accident or emergency. With small children, accidents can happen in the blink of an eye: a baby choking on food, a toddler ingesting something poisonous, or a child falling down the stairs.
This course is for you if you want to:
- Provide first aid to babies and children, including CPR
- Study the theory online in your own time and at your own pace
- Practice emergency situations during a classroom session
- Receive an official, recognized certificate
What will you learn?
You will learn how to ensure safety, assess the child’s condition, alert emergency services, and provide first aid in case of:
✓ Cardiac arrest: CPR and use of an AED
✓ Unconsciousness
✓ Nosebleeds
✓ Burns and skin wounds
✓ Head, neck, and spinal injuries
✓ Drowning
✓ Poisoning
✓ Choking
✓ Sprains
✓ Severe allergic reaction
✓ Febrile seizures and shortness of breath
✓ Injuries to bones, muscles, and joints
✓ Insect stings, jellyfish stings, tick bites
✓ Foreign objects in nose/ear and splinters
✓ Split lip or lost/broken tooth
What to expect
Online theory
The e-learning consists of text and clear instructional videos, and concludes with a test. You can complete the theory at home and at your own pace. With a score of 80% or higher, you will receive a Certificate of Participation, which grants access to the classroom session.
Duration: 4–6 hours
Classroom session
In an interactive way, an experienced Red Cross instructor will explain and demonstrate the correct actions for each emergency. Real-life scenarios are simulated and you will practice CPR and AED use on manikins. You will train under supervision, receive tips & tricks, and have the opportunity to ask questions.
